Justine Highsmith (b. 1987) is a queer poet, choreographer, and composer. She earned her BFA in Intermedia from Pacific Northwest College of Art where she graduated with top honors. Highsmith received a PICA Precipice Fund (2015-2016) and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts grant along with six Portland-based artists to install an immersive sonic environment at Cathedral Park, St. Johns. She has performed with Extradition Series, PWNW, SIX, the Holocene, and other interdisciplinary art institutions throughout Portland, OR. Her sound and movement scores explore the spatial proximities between speech and silence and how the body becomes unmade. She is currently publishing her first book of poetry entitled, “EROS | ROSE” with an accompanying vocal score to be debuted in 2020.
